The Spoken English Course is designed to help individuals improve their English speaking skills and communication abilities. The course is suitable for individuals of all levels and backgrounds, and aims to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for learners to develop their skills.

Objectives

The primary objective of this course is to enhance your ability to communicate effectively in spoken English. It is not necessary to attain native speaker proficiency or expression, but rather to develop skills that allow for clear and understandable communication without great effort or misunderstanding. The course focuses on improving skills in areas such as vocabulary, grammar, interactive communication, and presentation to ensure that any limitations or shortcomings do not hinder effective communication.

Program Structure

  • Language skills necessary for effective communication:

    • Intelligible pronunciation, stress and intonation patterns
    • Listening comprehension skills
    • Vocabulary beyond that of the subject matter
    • Control of English grammar
    • Paraphrasing and elaboration skills
    • Coherent organization of information at sentence and discourse levels
    • Interactive skills to enhance comprehension
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to effective communication in the academic setting:

    • Verbal and non-verbal behavior appropriate for students and instructors
    • Interaction between students and instructors
  • Certification for English proficiency:

    • RCSS Test at the end of the course
    • Factors that determine the decision:
      • Classroom and tutorial instructors’ evaluations of each student
      • Student performance in the course
      • Review of the student’s files
      • Review of the student’s performance in classroom presentations
